Female presence in tech positions increases

According to a survey conducted by Catho in 2022, the female presence in the technological sector has increased significantly.
In 2021, women occupied 21% of tech positions. Already, in the first months of 2022, this number rose to 23%, demonstrating a growth of 2.1 points compared to the previous year and emphasizing progress in the inclusion of women in the segment.

Reduction of the Wage Gap

In addition to the increase in female presence, there was also a reduction in the wage gap between men and women in management positions in technology. In 2021, the female average salary was R$7,950, while the male average was R$9,092.
In early 2022, this difference dropped to 10%, with the average female salary for management positions in the area rising to R$8,339.90, and the male salary to R$9,267.82.

The promising future in the IT sector

A study conducted by BairesDev in 2022 showed a significant increase in the participation of women in technical and non-technical roles in the technology field, rising from 11% to 41%, from 2016 until the year the survey was completed.
Although software development or engineering positions are still mostly occupied by men, the trend is for the market to present more balanced opportunities between genders in the coming years.

Challenges to be overcome

Despite the progress, gender inequality is still evident in areas such as Exact Sciences, Engineering, and Computing.
Female enrollments correspond to only 13.3% and 21.6% of the total in undergraduate classroom courses, respectively.
Undoubtedly, there is still a long way to go, but, even so, it is important to celebrate all this evolution.
