DemandaNet is a company that emerged to help public institutions provide software to city halls and to the people who use services provided by the government. Over the years, the focus of development shifted to software development for education departments in more than 70 cities.
The Client's Challenge
The client provides services across the entire country, in different cities with different needs. They used to host their application with a local provider in their city and were receiving no support for basic services such as providing a backup. Due to this critical scenario, the client used to face periods of downtime and risk of data loss, in addition to being unable to properly monitor their application.
Solution
The first thing to do was to create an environment identical to the one they already had, so they would be able to use it as a staging environment. After creation and testing, we were ready to migrate the production application to AWS. In addition, we increased observability by implementing AWS CloudWatch to monitor resources and collect logs, and we considerably improved the infrastructure as a whole after implementing AWS RDS, which enabled easy database size upgrades, increased backup and restore possibilities, and allowed query tuning by providing details in Performance Insights.
Results
Increase in website availability.
Increase and consistency in backup performance.
24/7 application monitoring.
Database tuning when using RDS Performance insights.
Benefits
As a result, the following benefits were achieved:
Better availability: AWS EC2 is a service that offers much higher quality and subsequent stability compared to local providers that use shared resources.
Better cost management: AWS EC2 and AWS RDS allow manual and automatic scaling according to the client's needs, which does not keep the client trapped in contracts and service delays to increase or decrease resources.
Improvement in the quality of service offerings. In addition to the mentioned services, other items like AWS WAF were implemented and expanded the range of services used by the client on AWS.
