Claude: the artificial intelligence that conquered programming

Understand why Claude has become one of the most adopted AI models by developers and technology teams.

Leonardo Fróes

Founded by former researchers at OpenAI (the creator of ChatGPT), Anthropic was born with the proposal to develop safer, more predictable, and alignment-oriented AI systems. Today, the company solidifies Claude as one of the leading AI models on the market. A benchmark not only in conversational capability, but especially in the programming universe.

The combination of advanced models, intelligent agents, and dedicated tools has transformed Claude into a more sophisticated development companion, capable of understanding code, navigating complex projects, and executing tasks directly in the environments where teams work.

The rise of Claude Code, the coding agent, has further boosted this perception. For many developers, Claude has started acting like a team member. At the same time, cloud integrations, such as AWS, have expanded the platform's reach.

This article examines what makes Claude the "darling" AI of programming, how its architecture evolves in real-time, and how Claude Code represents a structural shift in engineering practices.

Claude AI

Although many people know Claude as a chatbot, its possibilities can go far beyond a simple conversation. Like other language models, it interprets prompts and generates responses, but the difference lies in how it learns and adapts. Anthropic's LLMs are trained on massive datasets and structured in architectures optimized for structured reasoning, deep contextual understanding, and generalization capability.

Claude excels in tasks such as:

  • code analysis and technical explanations;

  • detailed answers in mathematics, science, and engineering;

  • structured research and technical content creation;

  • supporting complex decisions based on multiple sources.

Additionally, the model can conduct web searches to access updated information, a feature introduced only in May 2025. This resource significantly expanded its usage in dynamic and technical contexts.

The model ecosystem

Anthropic develops its technologies from three main model lines, each optimized for a specific type of interaction:

Sonnet
It is the most widely used and also the most versatile model. Sonnet offers the balanced experience ideal for long conversations, technical support, brainstorming, and quick responses. Due to its generalist nature, it has become the "default model" for most users.

Opus
Opus is the line dedicated to high-complexity tasks: mathematical reasoning, engineering, optimization, and advanced programming. In development environments, it is the most sought-after model for handling sophisticated code snippets, extensive refactoring, and structural analysis.

Haiku
With significantly faster response times, Haiku is useful for those who prioritize turnaround time, even if it means some loss of precision or depth. Ideal for automation, short answers, and large-scale operations.

This modular architecture database allows teams to choose the ideal model for each step of the development process.

Claude Code

Released in 2024, Claude Code marked Anthropic's entry into the segment of agents integrated into the development workflow. A tool that operates directly in the developer's terminal and interacts with the project as if it were an active team member.

Instead of functioning as a separate chat interface, Claude Code integrates into the natural workflow. It reads files, navigates the repository, proposes improvements, and even executes commands to implement solutions.

Its primary capabilities are:

  1. Feature creation from descriptions
    The developer describes what is needed; Claude Code structures the plan, writes the code, adjusts dependencies, and validates the solution.

  1. Context-oriented debugging
    Just paste an error or report unexpected behavior: the agent analyzes the entire repository, locates the problematic point, and applies the fix.

  1. Deep navigation through any codebase
    It understands the full structure of the project, identifies relevant modules, and explains dependencies in a clear and contextual manner.

  1. Automation of repetitive tasks
    From linting fixes to resolving merge conflicts, Claude Code can take over mechanical activities, freeing up the team to focus on what matters.

The result is a smoother, frictionless engineering experience with significant productivity gains.

Why developers adopted Claude

The enthusiasm of the technical community is no coincidence. There are features that set Claude apart from other AIs used for programming.

  • Instead of requiring an additional graphical interface, Claude Code operates directly from the command line. This reduces distractions and prevents switching between tools.

  • Claude Code can: edit files, create new modules, run tests, execute scripts, and generate commits.

  • Simple commands can be combined into complex workflows. It is possible to chain commands in pipelines, connect them to CI/CD, and integrate with internal systems.

  • Privacy, security, scalability, and auditability are native components of Claude. It can be hosted via API, AWS, and other cloud services.

Claude in the cloud

Anthropic expanded Claude's accessibility by making the model available in widely adopted cloud environments. The ability to use it via API and host it on AWS reduces implementation barriers and accelerates corporate adoption, allowing teams to build advanced AI solutions without directly dealing with complex infrastructure.

In the case of AWS, developers can integrate Claude into existing workflows, leveraging features of the AWS ecosystem and keeping governance, security, and scalability aligned with corporate standards.

This approach facilitates everything from rapid testing to large-scale deployments, creating a natural path to incorporate Claude into new applications or legacy systems.

Key benefits for development teams:

  • immediate deployment via API, supporting multiple programming languages;

  • hosting and management via AWS, with scalability and security native to the platform;

  • simple integration with existing CI/CD pipelines and serverless architectures;

  • reduction in operational costs by avoiding the maintenance of in-house infrastructure.

In practice, this allows companies to adopt advanced AI quickly and predictably, while other compatible cloud services further expand the model's technical and commercial reach.

Claude Code on the web

Claude Code was born as a command-line tool, operating directly in the developer's terminal. Starting in the second half of 2024, the natural evolution was a fully web-based version, which radically expanded its reach and made the agent more suitable for entire engineering teams.

Now, developers can:

  • operate multiple repositories in parallel, in a single interface;

  • view the progress of each task in real-time;

  • interact with the agent during execution to adjust paths, review decisions, or redefine priorities;

  • work in isolated environments, ensuring security and avoiding interference with the local system.

The transition to the web transformed Claude Code into a technical collaboration tool, integrated into pipelines, automation routines, and corporate development workflows. This expansion also strengthened its role as an engineering agent capable of acting continuously and under supervision on complex tasks.

The impact of the web version was immediate, substantially expanding its adoption and integrating the agent into a growing portion of Anthropic's internal workflows.

Although exact numbers are not public, Claude Code quickly became central to the toolkit used by the company and its technical community.

Claude for Science

In recent update cycles, Anthropic extended Claude's capabilities beyond software development, positioning the model as a direct ally in scientific research processes. The company introduced connectors capable of integrating Claude with specialized platforms used by laboratories, research centers, and teams working with complex data.

This integration allows Claude to:

  • access structured scientific databases;

  • assist in the analysis of experimental data;

  • support hypothesis formulation;

  • write and review code used in simulations and modelings;

  • synthesize large volumes of papers, reports, and regulatory standards.

In practice, the model becomes a highly precise technical assistant, supporting stages ranging from initial research to the translation of findings into real-world applications.

Several pharmaceutical and biotechnology teams already use Claude for tasks such as statistical analysis, support for computational pipelines, review of regulatory documentation, and organization of clinical study data.

As the AI market expands and models begin to find more defined spots in corporate workflows and human daily life, Claude demonstrates that it has found its niche: being the reliable assistant for those who build, debug, integrate, and discover.

Its potential lies in executing tasks, navigating systems, and training in complex production processes.

In a scenario of intense competition in artificial intelligence, this combination of specialization and practical applicability could be the factor that sustains its growth and relevance in the market.
