About

FazGame is a digital platform for improving Portuguese language learning. Through game creation, students develop reading, writing, argumentation, and problem-solving skills. The methodology allows students to practice 10 BNCC competencies, and they can share their creations via link with their friends and family. This startup works as a partner to schools and governments.

Challenge

The client provides services nationwide, using their own AWS infrastructure. The partner started using AWS as a developer, so they began utilizing services to easily host their application, such as AWS Beanstalk. Although the tool served them well over the years, some issues regarding scalability and deployment led the client to look for other ways to solve their problems.

Solution

When the client pointed out the issues they were encountering when generating a new version, we immediately proposed creating a new infrastructure from scratch with an auto-scaling group of EC2 instances to enable the implementation of tools like New Relic and consequently increase observability. Upon performing this task, it was found that there was an application error that did not allow automatic scaling in AWS Beanstalk after a new deployment.

Results

• CodeBit increased observability by providing insights into the application's problems.

• Maintained ease of management and application scalability.

Benefits

• Improved availability: Auto-scaling groups automatically replace unhealthy instances, in addition to allowing the infrastructure to grow and shrink automatically.

• Improved sizing: We increased the ability to scale the infrastructure as a whole, enabling better cost dimensioning.

• Better observability: By implementing New Relic, we were able to find several points of improvement and assist the development team.
