Check out some simple and essential tips on CodeBlog to stay focused and ensure a more productive workflow.

03/29/2021

Probably, if you are a web programmer, regardless of your career history or experience level, you must be facing a turbulent routine due to the acceleration of companies' digitalization processes, largely motivated by the pandemic. Amidst the large volume of tasks to be executed in a short period of time, countless demands, and a high level of pressure, keeping focus has become a major challenge, especially when activities require a deep level of concentration.

Another point: as interesting as it is to develop the ability to multitask, the truth is that prioritizing some actions is essential to achieve success. And in order not to get carried away by distractions, it is important to know the right time to focus on just one operation and identify the project that requires the most attention at that moment.

Anyway, do you want to know how to optimize your work? So, follow along with us and check out the tips we have prepared for you!

1. Establish a routine

Indeed, when you work in an office and have predefined hours, it becomes easier to follow a daily work routine.

However, if you are one of the professionals who converted to remote work, ensuring this discipline at home can be a bit more complicated, but believe me: it is equally important.

Therefore, organize your times and tasks in a clear way - set aside some periods for calls and meetings, reserve some time for creative idleness, list all your daily obligations, and avoid accessing emails or messages outside of the determined periods.

2. List your daily goals

Undoubtedly, regardless of your field of operation, you need to keep in mind that without a specific goal, it is indeed complicated to maintain focus. This is because the goal is precisely what keeps a professional motivated to perform their work. Therefore, defining your goals is primary to fuel your daily dose of motivation.

3. Choose tasks with caution and learn to say no

As mentioned previously, to maintain concentration, first of all, it is necessary to choose tasks very carefully and list them beforehand in your checklist. After all, time, especially for you, as a programmer, is an asset of immeasurable value.

In addition, it is essential to learn to delegate tasks and, above all, to know how to say "no" to assignments that might distract you from your priorities.

Setting aside activities that do not add value to your routine is an excellent way to avoid deviating from important tasks.

Therefore, when someone asks for a favor, or a client requests a last-minute delivery, always evaluate the impact that this will have on your planning.

If possible, include non-urgent requests in a separate list and only focus on them after fulfilling all your daily planning.

4. Take breaks

To rest the body and worry-free the mind, taking some breaks during the day is indispensable. Therefore, plan to take a 5 to 15-minute break between one task and another.

During this little time, do some light reading, stretch, take a walk, talk to a friend, prepare a snack, or enjoy your own company outdoors. The important thing is, really, to reserve a period for rest and never force yourself to maintain focus and productivity, because this type of pressure can compromise, not only your creativity but also your mental health.

5. Beware of distractions

Avoiding distractions is a crucial matter for the success of any work.

Therefore, whenever you start a task, silence notifications from your cell phone, email, and any other device. It is also possible to schedule an automatic message during your working hours, to inform about your unavailability.

In addition, it is important to organize your workplace and space to prevent unexpected visits. Bet on signs such as "do not disturb" or "do not enter" and optimize your performance by getting rid of distractions once and for all.

6. Focus on one task at a time

Often, doing several things at the same time can result in low-quality deliveries and unfinished tasks. Therefore, focus on one task at a time and only move on to the next activity when you have finished the previous one.

The peak of productivity and, consequently, of success, lies precisely in knowing how to maintain focus, even in the midst of a turbulent and very busy routine.

So, did you enjoy the tips on how to maintain your concentration? Now that you have all the necessary information to optimize your work, put them into practice and conquer good results.
