So-called "GovTechs" are startups focused on providing more innovation to public management and helping to save resources through technological solutions.

This operating model has grown considerably in recent years and, according to ABStartups (Brazilian Association of Startups), currently, the country has more than 135 startups whose mission is to associate the technological context with government actions.

These companies develop the most diverse types of services to ease the numerous challenges faced by citizens. To do this, they simplify contact between the population and the government, speed up the delivery of public services to society, offer cybersecurity systems for data protection and data privacy, create virtual environments to facilitate remote learning, and enable management tools in health centers, clinics, and hospitals, and many others.

It is certain that a market as fruitful and promising as this hosts several projections. With this in mind, in today's article, CodeBit has extracted, from the work carried out by the "Institute for the Future" (IFTF) - an organization that has worked with the foresight agenda for over 50 years, the 5 major trends for the govtech ecosystem.

Want to find out what lies ahead? So, continue with the reading and check it out.

Decentralization

As early as 2022, a transition from centralized government to distributed governance is expected.

In this context, the public sector will remain a key figure, but, essentially in the construction of public policies, it will begin to recognize and value the participation of other people, sectors, and institutions.

This movement was evident during the pandemic scenario, when grassroots organizations mobilized to ensure the provision of support services to families who were directly impacted by the coronavirus crisis.

Metaverse

Regarded as one of the main trends in the technology sector, signs point to the metaverse also becoming consolidated within the Govetchs ecosystem.

This is because, based on the unprecedented combination of the physical and digital worlds, countless possibilities can arise in relation to the simultaneous work of different professionals on digital projects, the expansion of teaching and learning formats, and communication between public agencies and citizens.

Although the metaverse is still an unknown to many people, the fact is that it is time to prepare for its arrival.

The future of work

The pandemic laid bare a historic shift in the labor market in general.

Processes that would take years to implement became a reality within weeks. Of course, the urgent nature of social isolation was definitive for all this, but from now on, there is no going back.

In fact, this entire revolution was "centralized" by remote work, which also impacted how public services began to be designed and offered to citizens.

In the coming years, digitization will become even more intense and evident. Along with it, demands and challenges will arise for people and institutions. After all, how to offer quality services in a digital environment? What skills must be developed to operate different technologies? And, most importantly: how to efficiently serve those who do not yet master or have no contact with these technologies?

Artificial Intelligence as an ally of ethics

Artificial Intelligence is already part of the reality of several sectors and applications, including those related to the governance context.

However, from now on, we will observe new and surprising functionalities of this tool, which promise to actively contribute to ethics, justice, and transparency in government actions.

Cybersecurity and elections

As Brazil will hold elections in 2022, given the rising political polarization, as well as the economic and social crises, more than ever, it is essential to trace effective strategies against fake news and misinformation in general. For this, it will be necessary to review all cybersecurity, and it is up to the institutions to position themselves alertly and combatively against the possible attacks that will be directed at the democratic process.

Conclusion

Even though the future often seems scary to us, it is necessary to think about it and train our gaze to analyze the signs of change and understand how these transformations can consolidate and revolutionize the most diverse areas.

After all, only with reasoning, research, and knowledge will it be possible to think of strategies to seize opportunities and face the challenges that arise.

We have the chance to shape our future, and technology plays a fundamental role in the process of ideating and building new and better perspectives for all.
